Grade 1 English Lessons
When children move to grade 1, they are officially considered as being part of the 'school' experience. The start of grade 1 usually leads to first-time shocks and some difficulties, as students adapt to different teachers teaching diverse subjects in a full school environment. Most of the time, children manage to get used to the school and find enjoyment in learning.
Grade 1 introduces English learning challenges and, in parallel, many opportunities for success. This is the starting point for doing reading comprehension activities, major writing works, and going through thicker books. In grade 1, teaching English becomes both broader and more diverse. Using just oversized picture books is not the practice anymore. Reading with books that contain more words than pictures is now a part of the curriculum. More emphasis is now put on writing, together with close attention to grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.
Even though grade 1 English does include songs and rhymes, their linguistic value is now seen as higher than the simplicity of composition or rhythm, since students in grade 1 should be able to pronounce and speak with fluency.
Our curriculum covers written and test content for reading comprehension, writing, reading for both enjoyment and importance, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and speaking and listening in English.
