Grade 3 English Lessons

At the end of Grade 3 (Year 3), pupils are mature enough to face advanced language, classic literature, and start independent writing. It is an engaging time in a child's education when they begin to discover many areas of knowledge on their own. Parents and educators should make use of the natural interest and adventurous learning in children at this time.

At this point, children's reading abilities become particularly important. At this point, children can start reading by themselves, handling materials that offer fewer illustrations and are usually more wordy and complex. At this time, those students with stronger language skills may be introduced to the classics.

Here, children should attempt comprehension exercises that expect them to write full sentences on their own without help. Because children's ability to handle these exercises can differ so much, it is necessary to make decisions on a case-by-case basis. Teachers of those learning English as a second language should take great care before starting independent comprehension tasks.

Writing will become a major focus of changes in the curriculum. By this age, students are expected to write straightforward descriptions and narratives either by themselves or with only minimal instruction.

We make available teaching and learning material that covers reading for enrichment, comprehension, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, and vocabulary.
