Grade 7 English Lessons

In specific educational contexts, Grade 7 signifies either moving into middle school or entering high school. It is generally true that grade 7 distinctly moves students away from elementary school in many ways. The main shift in English education is that grammar is rarely introduced in an explicit manner. Whichever grammar concepts are covered will be introduced inductively or reviewed as part of revision. The situation with vocabulary is similar, although a few idiomatic expressions and phrasal verbs might still be addressed. Reading comprehension will be taught exclusively through books of both fiction and non-fiction.

The reading comprehension tasks at this point are much more advanced, assessing a student's ability to draw inferences and recognize specialized vocabulary. Introduction to summary writing could occur at this level.

You can expect students to write letters, elaborate on graphs, charts, or diagrams, and compose articles during writing sessions. Besides traditional essay writing, students will be expected to create different types of writing, including narrative, argumentative, expository, and descriptive writings.

Here, the teaching of vocabulary will happen both incidentally and through the words presented in reading comprehension questions. In cases where second language learners possess average or low English language skills, explicit vocabulary teaching may need to be implemented.
