Foods in the United States

The United States boasts of a rich variety of foods, a plethora of farm fresh produce and some unique dining experiences. Some of the most delicious dishes that the country offers are:

Deep Dish Pizza

The Chicago-style pizza is actually a deep-dish pizza. It consists of cheese, fillings like meat and vegetables, and pizza or a chunky tomato sauce in the same order. The crust is usually two to three inches in length and gets slightly fried due to the oil in the pan. Its dough is made from wheat flour and sometimes semolina flour, giving the crust a noticeably yellowish hue. A deep-dish pizza is baked in a round, steel pan that resembles a cake or pie pan. The dough is laid on the sides of the pan, forming a basin for a thick layer of cheese. The fillings are layered on in an upside-down order, with the cheese on the bottom in order to prevent it from getting burnt, any meat and vegetable toppings in the middle, and the tomato sauce on the top.

Apple Pie

The saying is "American as apple pie" for a reason: this sweet treat is almost like a national institution. The noble pie is actually a simple combination of sugar, buttery pastry, and tart sliced apples produces a dessert so extraordinary chefs all across the globe have devoted their entire lives to perfecting it.

The Hamburger

A hamburger is traditionally a sandwich consisting of one or more cooked patties of ground meat, usually beef, placed inside a sliced bread roll or bun. The patty may be pan fried, grilled, or flame broiled. Hamburgers are usually filled with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, bacon, or chilis and condiments such as ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, relish. A hamburger which has a cheese slice on top is called a cheeseburger.

Tacos

A taco is a traditional Mexican dish. It is structured as follows: a wheat tortilla is folded or rolled around a filling and a variety of fillings are added, including beef, pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables, and cheese. Tacos are generally eaten by our hand, often garnished with salsa, chili pepper, avocado, guacamole, coriander, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce. Their roots date back to the ancient valley of Mexico where people used to eat them with small fish.

Mac and Cheese

Mac and Cheese which is short for macaroni and cheese is a divine combination of hot boiled macaroni topped with oodles of melted cheese. It is considered America’s ultimate comfort food. A variety of cheese. It gained its popularity after being introduced by Thomas Jefferson to The United States, but no single person can lay his or her claim to be the inventor of this dish.

Pancakes

Pancakes are basically flat cakes, often thin and round in shape, prepared from starch-based butter and cooked on a hot surface. Things such as maple syrup, fruits, bacon, egg, chocolate sauce can be added to pancakes in order to make them more interesting and delicious.

Hot Dogs

One of the most staple foods of Americans is the hot dog- a basic traditional sausage that is grilled or steamed put between a long, thin, sliced bun and a dash of tomato ketchup or mustard sauce on top. It is also known as an assembled sandwich.

Cheesecake

Cheesecake is cake consisting of one or more layers. The main or bottom layer consists of a mixture of soft, fresh cheese, eggs, and sugar. The bottom layer comprises a crust or base made from crushed cookies or more recently, digestive biscuits, graham crackers, pastry, or sometimes a basic sponge cake. It may be baked or unbaked but is usually refrigerated in order to be set. Additional flavours may be added to the cheesecake such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, nuts, cookies, fruit sauce, chocolate syrup, or other interesting toppings.
