Frozen 2

'Frozen 2' is a popular 3D animated musical film from the house of Walt Disney. The movie is a sequel to the 2013 film, ‘Frozen’ which had garnered rave reviews from audience and critics alike. The film features the voice cast of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff reprising their roles from the first film with Sterling K Brown and Evan Rachel Wood joining the cast. Beginning three years after the first film, ‘Frozen 2’ follows Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven embarking on journey beyond their kingdom, Arendelle to uncover the origins of Elsa’s magic powers and save their kingdom after a mysterious voice calls out to Elsa.

The movie begins with a flashback to a moment when Elsa and Anna’s father, King Agnarr telling the girls a story of their grandfather establishing a treaty with the neighbouring tribe of Northuldra by building a dam in their home, the Enchanted Forest. After a fight in which their grandfather dies, the elemental spirits, Earth, Fire, Water and Air disappear in anger with a wall of mist trapping the people of the Forest. Agnar escaped with the help of a young woman. In the present, Elsa hears a mysterious voice calling out to her, she unintentionally awakens the Elemental Spirits which forces the kingdom to be evacuated. Elsa sets out discover the truth of her past with Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven. They learn that the fifth spirit will unite all the forces and continue to journey where they discover their parents wrecked ship and a map which will take them to a mythical river where all the secrets of the past will be revealed. Elsa makes the trip further north alone. She learns that she is the fifth spirit, granted the powers as a gift from nature. She also learns that her grandfather built the dam to limit Northuldra’s resources as he disliked magic. Elsa sends the message to her sister who takes steps to have the dam destroyed. Elsa manages to save the kingdom by diverting the flood. Elsa decides to remain in the Forest while Anna becomes the new Queen. Thus, the sisters act as the peacekeepers of the kingdom.

Frozen 2 was well-received as it was another Disney movie where the female characters diverted conflict with little male help. It received several awards for its animation, music and story during the Academy Awards as well.
