Outstanding Story (Sub-junior) - The Story of Bees and Butterflies

“The Story of Bees and Butterflies” is one of the outstanding stories (sub-junior) of the first biannual International Short Story Contest 2019 written by Dhanya, Rak’s Pallikkoodam, India.

The Story of Bees and Butterflies

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful butterfly and a honeybee. They were close friends. One summer day, when bees and butterflies were collecting nectar, a stinky smell came through the air. No sooner the bees and butterflies died. But lucky these friends were near the pond that somehow they escaped. Butterfly told to the bee, “People are very greedy and they killed our friends” and bee replied, “We have to take revenge on them”. “Yes, bee you are right”, said the butterfly. They lived in a very big community but now only few were remaining. They called out the remaining members of their family for a meeting. They asked their family members not to pollinate in the farmland. They can only pollinate in the forest. So, there were no bees and butterflies in the farmland. The flowers bloomed, but there were no fruits anywhere. People sprayed the insecticide again and again but it was of no use. Then people realized that there were no bees and butterflies. Farmers asked their leader what to do. The leader told we can spray a perfume on them, so they will do what we say. The clever bee and butterfly overheard everything.

They went and told their family, so all of them in their family were alert. The next day, when the people come to spray the perfume, bees stung them. After they stung, people died. When the news reached the farmers, they all realized their mistake and never sprayed insecticide to plants. Then bees and butterflies started coming. People decided not to disturb nature. They planted more flowering plants for the bees and butterflies. They all lived happily ever after. When nature doesn’t disturb us, why do we humans disturb nature all the time?

Moral: Do not disturb nature.
