Outstanding Story (Sub-junior) - Chocolate Rain

“Chocolate Rain” is one of the outstanding stories (sub-junior) of the first biannual International Short Story Contest 2019 written by Geetika Mehta, Alpine Public School, India.

Chocolate Rain

Long, long, ago there lived a couple. The husband was very angry of his wife because she was very foolish. Whatever the husband shares with her, without realizing she will tell it to everyone. Then, one day the husband got very frustrated and said, “Get out of my house”. Again without thinking she obeyed him. She soon reached a nearby forest. While walking she saw a big tree and decided to climb and sleep on it. At midnight as she was snoring, she found two people running in the opposite direction, shouting about some ghost. She climbed down from the tree and saw a bag full of gold coins. She took it home happily and knocked at the door. The husband opened the door and saw her holding something. So he asked what it was. She then narrated the full story.

After telling the story she went inside and slept. The husband was very smart and after thinking for a while he got an idea. He woke up his mother and told her to make lots of chocolate syrup. Then he went to the terrace and spread all the chocolate syrup. Then he went to his wife, “Wake up, see the rain of chocolate.” She brought a vessel and gathered all the syrup. All of them enjoyed drinking it and slept again.

Next morning as the wife met her neighbors she shared the last night’s incident with them. The news spread like a forest fire and reached the king. The king called the husband and asked him if he had a bag of gold coins. With due respect to the king he mentioned that his wife is a very foolish lady and keep saying all cooked up stories every time. The king called her and she narrated last night’s incident about the gold coin bag and also about the rain. Upon hearing this, the king let them free.

Moral: With intelligence one can face any situation.
