You can use a newborns’ crib to begin sleep training them, in their primary sleeping area. Swaddling and sleep sacks are great for this stage, as they keep the baby warm. Loose bedding is also not recommended, as this can pose a safety risk for your little one. It is a good idea to let your baby sleep in the same position in their crib throughout the day as well, so they associate it with sleeping.

Your newborn should be laid on their back, on a firm surface, and without any loose objects. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends setting up the crib in a room for the first 6 months and a half. You should try to keep the room cool to avoid overheating. If the temperature in the room is too high, use a fan to help circulate the air. Your baby will be more likely to fall asleep in a dark room.

To encourage your newborn baby to sleep in their crib, try to create a bedtime routine. A good idea is to include a stroller ride. This can be a short circling of your living room. Once your baby is calm, you can move them to the crib. Remember to check your child’s vital signs before allowing them to stay up past their bedtime. Some babies are more prone to crying than others. But if you can’t afford a swaddle, then buy a pacifier instead.
