How To Get a Baby To Stop Crying

The journey of a new parent can be unbelievably exciting. At the same time, it can be stressful. Immediately, your entire life is going to be dictated by the health and safety of your newborn baby. Therefore, when you hear your baby crying, you will probably want to jump into action as quickly as possible to try and calm down your child. You might even be interested in how to soothe a crying baby without holding them. What are some of the tips you should follow to try and stop your baby from crying?

Is Your Baby Hungry?

If your baby is crying, there is a finite number of reasons why. One of the most common reasons why babies cry is that they are hungry. When was the last time your baby ate? If it has been a long time since your baby last ate, then he or she is probably hungry. When your baby is a newborn, he or she has to eat every 2 to 3 hours. This includes feeding through the night. If your baby is crying, there is a good chance that he or she is hungry.

Is Your Baby Dirty?

There is also a chance that your baby might be crying because he or she has a dirty diaper. If your baby has a dirty diaper, you need to change it. Shortly after feeding your baby, keep your eyes, ears, and nose open for a potential dirty diaper. If you do not change the diaper quickly, then your baby will start crying. If your baby is crying, this is one of the first things you should check. Do not forget to use baby powder when you change your baby’s diaper. That way, you can prevent your baby from chafing.

Is Your Baby Tired?

You should also ask yourself if your baby is tired. Babies do not know how to voice what they are feeling. Therefore, if they are uncomfortable, they will simply start crying. Because a newborn baby cannot move around that much, there is a limited number of possible discomforts. One of the most common is that your baby is tired. If your baby is tired, simply bring him or her to his or her crib. Then, put your baby down for a nap. If your baby falls asleep quickly, you know you have figured out the reason why your baby is crying.

Is Your Baby Teething?

Finally, there is also a chance that your baby is crying because he or she is teething. A lot of children get their first tooth around 12 months of age. Therefore, you may expect your child to start experiencing teething pains shortly before this time. If your baby is teething, you may want to put a cool rag in his or her mouth. You do not want to put something frozen in your baby’s mouth because you can cause frostbite on the inside of the mouth. You also need to be very careful using oral gel because some of them have lidocaine in them, which can numb your baby’s mouth.

Consider All Possibilities

If you want your baby to stop crying, you need to address some of the most common reasons why kids cry. Your baby may be tired, or your baby may be hungry. It is also possible that your baby may have a dirty diaper, or that your child might be teething. If you feel like your child is crying too much, you may want to talk to your pediatrician to learn more. That way, you can figure out why your baby is crying and how to stop it.
