๐บ๏ธ Coordinate Plane
The coordinate plane involves x and y coordinates on the two axes. In Coordinate Plane, students practice making graphs with points using the format of ordered pairs. Here, students practice thinking about space and prepare themselves for courses in data analysis, geometry and algebra. Improving your reading and plotting skills can develop your brainpower and the ability to solve various math problems.
Finding the Graphs in the First Quadrant
At the beginning, students are taught to locate points by using positive x and y values in the first quadrant of a plane. They are able to find points like (4, 2), where the numbers refer to movement along the x-axis and the y-axis. Because of this, people can read maps and find their way using charts and figures. Taking part in treasure maps and picture graphs adds excitement to the experience.
Activity Idea
Human Graph - Use chalk or tape to create a large coordinate grid and walk to coordinates.
Entertainment Activities
1. Battleship Game (Paper Version) - Use graph paper to locate and guess coordinates.
2. Graph Your Room - Map out furniture on graph paper.
3. X/Y Hop - Call out coordinates and jump to them on a floor grid.
