Top Ten Kids’ Movies of 2018

Nothing like a bag of popcorn and a movie on Saturday night out with kids. Nowadays, the promise of a good movie is one of the few things that can drag a smart-phone loving kid out of home. 2018 has been good for the family movie goers, with some clean yet fun movies out in the cinemas. Some of them will be enjoyable by adults who are ‘adults at heart’ too, because they are sequels of movies that they themselves enjoyed in childhood.

Let us look at this delightful list of kids’ movies that 2018 has offered.

Kids’ Movie #1: Mary Poppins Returns

Premiere date: December 19

Who can forget ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’? Mary Poppins is a sure entry in any list of top kids’ movies of all time. The magical nanny (played by Emily Blunt) is back with a bang to help her former charges, now parents themselves, through a rough patch. Mary Poppins (Blunt) makes a dramatic re-entry into the lives of the Banks family. With the help of  the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), she uses her unique magical skills to let the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a myriad colorful and quirky characters, such as eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

Kids’ Movie #2: Christopher Robin

Winnie the Pooh never fails to amuse and entertain. The Hundred Acre Woods was never the same after Christopher Robin left it. Now an adult Christopher Robin is reacquainted with his old friend Winnie the Pooh, who reminds him how to be a kid again. The movie has many familiar themes, such as the daughter that comes to realize how much her father loves her, though initially doubting it. Pooh’s friends Tigger, Eeyore and the rabbit are all recreated in this lovely, clean movie for kids and family.

Kids’ Movie #3: Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation

The third installation of the Hotel Transylvania series does not disappoint. Our favourite monster family goes on a vacation on a luxury cruit ship, so Drac can take a much awaited summer vacation. The monsters enjoy their time on the ship, catching up on their moon tan and engaging in other monstrous entertainments. But the vacation cruise turns into a nightmare when Marvis recognizes signs of attraction between Drac and the enigmatic captain of the ship, Enricka, who harbors a secret that could destroy monsterkind.

Kids’ Movie #4: Small Foot

3D movies are all the rage now. No wonder the American 3D computer-animated comedy adventure film, Small Foot, produced by the Warner Animation Group became an immediate sensation soon after release. It is based on the book. Yeti Tracks by Sergio Pablos,   A group of Yeti come across a human, and creates a quite a stir in his community.  Each species thinks that the other is just a myth. The plot follows the misadventures and explorations into the ‘mythical’ character of both the Yeti and the human.

Kids’ Movie #5: Incredibles 2

Incredibles 2 is the sequel to The Incredibles (2004) and the story follows the Parr family as they try to revamp their image in the public eye, as trust worthy allies of mankind. However, they have to contend with a new enemy, much more dangerous than imagined, who seeks to turn the entire humanity against monsters. The film was a runaway success, especially because of the family dynamics portrayed, and at least for a few movie goers, the kind of attention paid to the female protagonist. Honestly, this is one film where the heroine gets the central role! The film grossed $182.7 million in its opening weekend, setting the record for best debut for an animated film.

Kids’ Movie #6: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

The all-time holiday classic comes to the big screen. Clara earnestly wants to open her late mother’s box. She doesn’t realize that the key she got at holiday party actually unlocks the door to new realms. The movie takes viewers through the land of Snowflakes, the Land of Flowers and the Land of Sweets. Things get not so innocent in the fourth realm, and the movie leaves you with the familiar sense of enchantment and freshness that comes from every classic of this nature – a little bit of “Alice in Wonderland’ feel.
