Top Five Pointers to Rock that Family Road Trip With Your Kids

The concept of Holiday Road Trips with your family is generally better than the road trip itself. If it’s your first trip, you are definitely in for a surprise, and not really the good kind. Cramming up a car with the people closest to you for a couple of days could turn out to be the recipe for a nightmare, if you’re not careful and fail to plan ahead. If you have toddlers or babies added into the mix, you definitely need to take some things into perspective before you hit the road.

Here are a few pointers on how to Survive a Holiday Road Trip with your family. It should give you the upper hand in tricky situations that may arise when you’re on the road with kids.

Bring on the Activities

A cluster of idle minds in a car is a devil’s supermarket. It’s crucial to have some activities for your kids planned ahead. Include some kid favourite music in your phone to play in the car. Small kids love to draw and color. Get one of those portable lap trays that fold up and down in the car. Give them some colors and paper and let them use the surface to paint, scribble, or color. An iPad with their favourite cartoons would be a winner addition. Also, audio books for kids that you can download on your phone and play it over the car stereo – works like magic for hours.

Keep them munching

One of the most crucial Survival Tips for Holiday Travel with kids involves food. Food is the universal solution for most of humanity’s problems, especially kids. More essentially, it keeps them busy. Make sure the snack bag is mixed up with the general candy-chips-cookie coalition along with some healthy options like carrots, cucumbers, and chopped fruits. Don’t just keep handing them out candy until it’s over. The sugar high will annoy the living daylights out of the trip. Keep the snacks on a cycle and maintain it.

Let Them Cry

You can have all the tricks in the bag, all the snacks, and all the fascinating activities to do. If you have a baby or toddler in car, at some point, he’s going to turn bitter and bawl relentlessly, for no particular reason. DO NOT give in. You can’t afford to lose time making stops every time the baby cries. Unless it’s hungry induced or a diaper change scenario or a real emergency, it really isn’t worth making a stop. You have to stay firm and let them stop on their own. They usually do.

Get the Right Mindset

You have got to accept that going on a road trip with your kids is not exactly the same as doing it with your buddies BEFORE you had babies. It’s probably going to take twice as much time. You have to stop for food, diaper changes, stretch-your-leg breaks, and a whole lot of other unplanned random stops. So, when you plan your schedule, you need to plan around it. It will avoid unnecessary stress later on.

Make Your Stops

If it’s a long road trip, stopping at regular intervals does pay in the long run. It’s a given that you’re going to be spending a substantial amount of time in the car. Making planned stops from time to time allows your kids to let out some steam and it makes the long ride to your destination a whole lot more tolerable.  One thing you need to keep in mind is that regardless of how long your lunch break will be, your toddler is going to need that bathroom break in less than half an hour. So, don’t make a big deal of it. You could easily rent a party bus for Corpus Christi family trip to cover all the planned stops.
