Study Skills Tips for Elementary Students

This section of Kids World Fun’s post is bringing some of the study skill tips for those elementary level students who experience failure and problem in studies. Every child is unique and different. Each child has different skill sets and behaviour patterns in which many of them are inherited from parents. How to improve study skills? Here are some tips for study skill development in elementary level.

Understand your child and inspire him. Developing an interest in learning and acquiring good study skills are not just the sole responsibility of children. Parent and teachers have their role to help growing good study skills in children. Follow the guidelines listed here to improve your child’s Study Skills;

  • The first thing is be a good model. Let your child follow you.
  • Help your child to be well planned and organized.
  • Make a daily routine. Help your child to create one.
  • Avoid things that distract your child’s concentration.
  • Give them a separate space for studying with good lighting and little distraction.
  • Turn the TV at your home off when your children are studying.
  • Sit with your child and check his/her studies.
  • Appreciate when your child perform well.

Note to Parents:

Parents have many things to do at home. Show the patience to sit with your children. Assist them to complete their homework. Instead of showing anger, associate it with care and love, fun and freedom. But decide where to stop and let them know where the limit is. Should have a proper idea of how much freedom and fun should be allowed inside and outside home. A parent should have a plan to raise your child properly organized.

A child should be organized. Provide your children same place and ask them to study at the same time every day, and make it a routine. Ask them to take short and long breaks to refresh and relax. Help them to keep away from all distractions. Always set a goal, which will help your kids to move forward much easier with a focus. Track the progress and reward them when they achieve something.

If you find your child requires proper guidance and help, do it now. Don’t wait or look for any study reports. If you need the help of teachers/parents don’t wait till they contact you. Meet them and get a solution. Check your child’s text books and study materials, and note book. And moreover, see what the school or teachers offer training for improving study skills in elementary levels. You can make use of educational games, magazines, e-books, and poems to make your children’s studies interesting. Take time and find: there are a number of websites for parents available online to help you guide in various situations.
