How to teach English alphabet

The first step in writing skill development is the development of the manipulative skill of forming the alphabets. If you are looking for ways to teach your kids English Alphabets, here are some of the best ways to do it.

Always focus one alphabet at a time. You can make use of simple activities and games to familiarise the kids to learn English Alphabets. In writing, legibility depends on maintaining the crucial contrasts between the letters. To teach the children to maintain these contrasts in their writing, you should then draw their attention in distinguishing apparently similar letters. For example, you can introduce similar letters like ‘h and n’, ‘p and q’, ‘l and i’ etc. This is best done when similar letters are presented in groups. For instance you can group them like this “a, o, e, c, b, d, p, q, g” and “m, n, h, r, f, i, l, t, y, u”.

Another important aspect is to make the strokes in the right direction. From the very beginning the teacher should guide the students to make the strokes in the proper direction. Teacher should show where to begin a letter, how to move and where to end. This is really crucial aspect for developing good handwriting.

Make use of rhymes and English Alphabet Song when you teach your students English Alphabet. Kids love to sing and therefore it will be a very easy way to grab the attention of children and teaching the alphabets of English.

Practice is very important for learning English Alphabet. It is important to teach English alphabets along with its sounds. There are 44 sounds in English and you should teach your children the difference of each sound during the time of teaching alphabets. Because teaching alphabets is not just restricted to writing English Alphabets, it is in fact the base for reading, speaking, and listening skills.
