Developing good study habits in children is important for their future academic success. Right study skills will help children to become more proficient and organized in their academic work. Understanding how to study efficiently brings up positive attitudes, feeling of competence and helps children realize how well they perform in school and the rest of their academic career.

As a parent you can do many things to help your child become a good student. You can start instilling right study habits with your child in the younger stage, as early as elementary school. As learning styles changes from child to child, you need to discover how your kids learn best and find out a regular study system that best suits their learning style. Here are some tips which will help you in developing right study skills for children.

One of the most significant steps you can take to support your child is to develop a good study routine. An established study schedule is necessary for children from the younger school age. As routines always develop into good habits, you can help your child to stick on a certain study routine, and you can notice that your child will automatically develop a regular study time. Some children like to study right after school time or some like to study later in the evening or after dinner. Younger children are easily get frustrated and are slow to complete their works. By considering other activities such as play time, family activities and favorite TV shows, you can decide a good study time for your child.

The second thing you need to consider is a regular place to study. An important thing is to choose a quiet study space which is away from distractions such as TV. Some children prefer to study in their own room. You need to make sure the study area have sufficient lighting and provide a writing table. Younger children like to study with parents nearby. Ensure you are spending time with your kids and it will help you monitoring their studies and study skills. You can sit down with your child and help him/her to bring new learning ideas. You can also help your child to keep To-do List for studies. Help your child to keep a list for homework, school assignments and other materials which are to be produced or completed. Make sure all the necessary study supplies such as pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, calculator, paper, assignment kids books, dictionaries etc are on hand.

When a specific assignment is completed, you must allow them to have some fun such as playing with friends, eating favorite snack, watching TV or playing a video or online game etc. Always be a good listener to your child and maintain a helpful attitude towards him. You can also encourage your children to participate in group studies.

Developing good study skills is more than just completing a homework or project. It is your attitude and responses that helps your child to understand many things – the significance of learning, different values of life, how to interact with others, and the very idea of life and dreams everything depends you and how you grow your children. Try to become an active participant and help your kids’ learning and encourage them with positive comments.
