How to Help Kids from Bed-wetting

Bed-wetting is a predominant problem faced by millions of parents. According to a study, 1 in every 20 children under the age of 10 years experiences this problem. Bed-wetting is common in the night.

Bed-wetting is not just an embarrassing condition but also affect the health and hygiene. Just imagine how horrible it would be for a child and the parent to put a diaper for a 10-year old child?

Before looking for a solution to Bed-wetting in kids, let us understand what causes bed-wetting.

Bed-wetting is quite common in school going children. Children under age 4 were able to control their bladder until morning. Students from the first grade to fourth grade tend to experience this embarrassing problem more than toddler.

Night time Bed-wetting is medically termed as Nocturnal Enuresis, which is a neurological condition. This is not a disease or a disorder. Since they are little ones, the developing brain doesn’t send any signals to hold the urine while the kid is sleeping. Just as adults urge to urinate when the bladder is full, it is a reflexive action.

Surprisingly, Bed-wetting can be a genetic problem. Around 70% of the Bed-wetting kids inherit this habit from the close relative. It could be siblings, parents, uncle, aunt or cousins. If any person in the family had Bed-wetting problem during their childhood, it is simply carried to the future generations through genes.

However, Bed-wetting can be caused due to a psychological problem, which is easily curable. Sudden onset of this habit may be caused due to many reasons that induce stress in kids.

For example,

  • A new baby in home
  • Being bullied at school
  • Moving to a new home / city / school. For those of you who are moving into a new house, Vidag’s umzug wien company gives the best transportation service.
  • Loss of grandparent / close relative
  • Unexplained / expressed fear over something

Although bed wetting is not a dreadful condition, it is very embarrassing to the children.

A few children knowingly wet the bed just they feel sleepy and lazy to wake up. Remember, shaming or punishing the child for Bed-wetting won’t help them overcoming this problem.  Instead it is good to explain them why they wet the beds.

Simple ways to help your child stop bed-wetting:

  • Practice your child to urinate before going to sleep
  • Avoid giving more liquid foods even if milk just before sleep
  • Follow and practice a day time potty patrol. A few kids may experience constipation and they pee at irregular times, which affects their sleep and interfere with the normal functions of bladder.
  • Make the child empty the bladder once in every 2 or 3 hours. Not emptying the full bladder during day would certainly affect the functions and causes bed-wetting.

Keep the child motivated and don’t let them down. Since this is more of a psychological condition, complete support and care with little changes as mentioned above. Say good bye to the Bed-wetting problem once for all without hassles.
