Imagine this: You’re working in the kitchen and slicing tomatoes and by accident you cut your finger. What do you do? You will certainly look for the first aid to stop the blood oozing out of your cut finger. However, in case if you don’t have the first aid at place, then what will be the next option? If you have medical superglue at your home, then apply it over the injured finger. Medical superglue is considered as the best adhesive that can fill the gap of the cut and bring down the pain.  Doctors use Medical superglue to fix some physical problems, especially wounds and cuts.

Let us check what actually the Medical Superglue is?

Superglue is a cyanoacrylate adhesive which is being used as instant glue for fixing broken things in your house. They help to stick the broken pieces tightly for long term. As the time changed, medical professionals found medical superglue worth using for medication purpose. This skin glue use was started during Vietnam War when war medics used glue to the open wounds of injured soldiers. In fact, in the year 2001, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the chemical which is quite similar to Super Glue, 2-octyle-cyanoacrylate that sticks well on the wounds and also carry antibacterial properties.

Today, medical superglue is largely used by doctors during surgical processes. In the year 2014, there was the discovery of waterproof, light activated and beach worm inspired glue which helped surgeons in many ways.

So as you’ve got an idea about the history of superglue and what makes super glue the best option for cuts, let us now check out for which physical problems doctors use medical superglue during treatment:

Cuts and Wounds on Skin:

When you visit the doctor to get medication for wounds and cuts on your skin, they now hardly use needle and thread to stitch the wound. Medical superglue has now replaced needles and helps to close the superficial wounds. Whether the wound is on the arms or legs, this glue works best in all areas. To perform the act, the doctor will hold the edges of the wound and apply a small strip of glue over it. The best thing is, the skin glue dries within a minute and it carries strong healing properties. So why go for long hours of stitching process, when the medical superglue can be at your assistance.

For Broken Breastbone:

Patients, who undergo open-heart surgery, usually have needling session to cover the area. But with the glue, doctors have found an innovative way to heal the area. Surgeons use skin glue to repair the sterntomies during the procedure. With the antibacterial quality, there is no issue of microorganisms.

Skin Grafts Sites:

Skins grafts are a part of burn therapy, helping to keep internal tissues and organs against the exposure of unhealthy environmental factors. Grafts are closed in place with statures, staples or clips. Our body creates natural adhesive helping to heal the wounds naturally. Surgeons use fibrin-based product under the name of Artists to affix the autologous skin grafts.

To Stop Bleeding in the Brain:

Newborns usually pose special concerns during surgery and when born with Arterioveous Aneurysm, described as the blood-bubble in the brain and which is treated with glue. The medical-grade adhesive is used by surgeons to stop the flow of blood. Surgeons usually use injection to fill the area with glue. The glue actually helps in bringing down the flow of the blood.

The Arteriovenous Fistulas (AVF) is connected with blood vessels in the brain and around spinal cord. Surgeons who treat brain and other tissues use different glues during the surgery.

However, in many cases, skin glue is not used for some types of wounds like:

  • Uneven wounds
  • Deep Wounds
  • Infected Wounds
  • Puncture Wounds

Be it the face or any part of the body, medical skinglue is worth applying for the positive result for long-term.

Conclusion

Surgeons and clinic doctors are using medical superglue to heal not so serious wounds, as it is highly effective and gives faster results. Skin glue is the best invention seen in ages which is now being used for faster results and heals the wound without further treatment.
