Easy Ways to Make Winter Healthy for Kids

It’s almost holidays now for your sweet little ones! However, it is winter, or almost winter! You may fear that your child could be the victim of extreme cold or develop flu or wheeze! You can make this time pleasant, joyous and wonderful by focusing a few elements to keep your child healthy.

Life changes dramatically during the freezing winter. The kids would love to snug in their bed for hours in the morning covering them in the quilt! When the temperature falls outside, your child body needs extra warmness to prevent infection. Also, a cold body is prone to laziness and deprived energy. Just wrapping your child in layer of clothing, socks in hands and legs, with head covered doesn’t keep them warm inside. The warmth should be from internal body to stay energized.

Make sure that you should have taken precautions and prepared your home to prevent infections, cough and flu affecting your little ones! While it is just inevitable to avoid certain amount of illness in your child (even in adults as well), you can obviously concentrate on feeding a healthy winter diet for your kid.

Winter is the best time to munch on some spicy tangy foods without guilt combined with light exercises or activities.

Porridge

There isn’t a best time to eat loads of porridge other than winter! The very versatile food can be made using a number of grains, from wheat, millet, corn, oats, nuts, lentils and a combination of all above. A bowl full of porridge in the morning and evening keeps your child warm and healthy.

Make the porridge colorful with fine chopped with carrots, beans, cabbage and veggies to add the healthy toast. Topped with nuts and chopped fruits, porridge is a bowl of wholesome health.

Semi-boiled roasted vegetables

Feeding vegetables for kids? Oh my god, that’s the toughest job in the world. Most moms feel it so. Don’t worry. Now you can make the little ones eat loads of veggies easily. Semi-boil the vegetables and roast it on a pan or microwave it lightly. Make sure that vegetables are chopped into bit sized pieces.

Make the veggies tastier by making a delicious sauce with butter or cheese. You can allow your child to eat some fatty foods during the winter for getting the warmness. Or simply sprinkle the cheese over the veggies to make it disappear!

Make sure not to overcook the vegetables as you may lose some micro nutrients.

Life with Spices

Adding mild spices to all the foods during winter ensure the warmness. Spices also help melting down the additional calories gained by eating fat foods. Spices contain healing power, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Make sure not to cook over spicy foods for children as spices could harm the internal parts. Just season the foods or top them with mild spices.

Wonderful winter foods for kids

There is a misconception that you should not feed cold inducing foods like yogurt, guava, tomatoes, etc during the winter as it might cause flu.

  • Pomegranate
  • Oranges, lemon and lime
  • Papaya
  • Apples
  • Guava
  • Broccoli and Cauliflower
  • Yogurt
  • Root vegetables
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Beans

Besides all, don’t miss getting the vitamin D from the sunlight for your kids. Let them play outside for at least half an hour a day, although it is difficult to see the gleaming sunshine.

Doubled with joy of celebrating Christmas, you can make this holiday more memorable! Finally, don’t miss keeping your child active with some mild to moderate exercises like walking, doing some basic yoga or even playing.
