5 Fixes for Homework Tantrums

One of the areas where many parents tend to have issues and experience extreme head ache is trying to make their child do Homework! Regardless of the child’s age, making them doing homework is a battle in many homes! Children who excel in academics also make the mommies and daddies to lose their tolerance over doing their kid’s homework.

It is one of the core areas where parents get stuck! Either the kids get distractions in the midway while doing their homework or they give up quoting difficulty even before they begin! The resistance to do homework will reflect in the behavior. Why it is so often very difficult? Is there any fixes for reducing the tantrums and meltdowns?

Early!

When it comes to scheduling certain activities, nothing can improve the condition until you start early. Whether it is feeding healthy foods, regulating the sleep routine, physical activities, good habits, you should start early. Similarly, homework falls under this category. Soon after your kid join the kinder garden, regulate the practice of doing homework every day.

Schedule an evening and night-time routine

After school, your child should follow a structured routine to avoid chaos. It needs not to be strict with the routine. It includes play time, eating, studying, watching television, etc. However, the schedule should make kids to dedicate time for homework. You can stick a note on the refrigerator or on a desk, etc. Remember to include the free time in the schedule. Their free time should be often allocated after the homework or study time. When there is no homework, don’t allow the child to sit with computer or watch television all the time.

The NO homework day should be used purposefully, reading a book, learning something new, etc.

Learn about the list of homework

Children are smart! They can easily cheat their parents on doing homework. When they have a huge list of homework to do, they can certainly hide their tasks to enjoy their time playing and having fun. So make sure to keep a track on their studies, watch school diary, communicate with the teacher, etc.

Reward with Token Economy

Everybody needs reward! When employees achieve their targets, they are getting rewarded. Now, bring this rewarding concept while doing homework. Called as Token Economy, tell your children to make a list of token economy. You don’t have to pay cash to your kids performing for what they are accountable! Rather, convert into token economy! When the child completes the studies 15 minutes earlier, give 15 points. The token can be accumulated and used for entertainment. For instance, if the child earns 15 points, extra 15 minutes video games are allowed. If the child accumulates 100 points, a gift is desired.

Don’t argue, keep it very simple

Make it very clear that until the homework is completed, the next session won’t begin! However, don’t fight or argue with kids. Explain positively! The quicker the homework is finished, the more time the child gets for playing and having fun. Communicate this information to your kid with a happy smile on your face.
